About

Pet Central is owned and run by Anne Rogers of Meath, Ireland. With the help of her ‘project-dog’ Rufus, Anne has worked hard to develop her skill as a pet dog trainer and behaviour professional.

Anne’s doggie education began as a child with competitive dog sports particularly conformation and competitive obedience. She started off showing and working Labradors and English Springer Spaniels but this soon expanded to include long leg terriers, miniature Poodles, Dachshunds, Maltese, GSDs, Collies, Border Collies and Old English Sheepdogs – her particular love are bull breeds and she will work with them at any given chance. Anne’s passion for dogs has never waned and she continues to prepare dogs for the showring and groom pets in a part time capacity.

After leaving school Anne studied and worked as a Veterinary Nurse both here and abroad developing a deeper understanding of the physiological health needs of companion animals and exotics pets. It was during this time that Anne was bitten by the behaviour bug to recognise that behavioural issues are as impactful as physical disorders.

Always aiming to develop her skill niche Anne has also worked as a Pet Shop Manager and as a pet Nutrition Advisor.

Anne continues to study in this field completing a BSc in Life Sciences and continuing with an MSc.

Anne is certified in clicker training (CAP2) having achieved Distinctions in CAP levels 1 & 2 through Learning About Dogs.

This supplements her continuing professional development which includes seminars, networking with behaviour professionals from all over the world and constant reading of any & all behaviour related books, articles and blog posts!

As well as running Pet Central, Anne works as module and class tutor on Killester College’s Animal Care course (FETAC Level 5) teaching Animal Behaviour, Animal Grooming & Biology.

She has also developed and teaches an intensive evening course ‘Introduction to K9 Behaviour’ and ‘Introduction to Canine Nutrition’ for those that really want to get to know more about man’s best friend.

Anne is most interested in the development of dog-friendly, motivational & reward based behaviour modification methods.  She is a member of pet dog training groups including APDT Ireland (APDTI009) Truly Dog Friendly (TDF), The Pet Professional Guild and APDT Ireland.

Anne is a founding member of APDT Ireland and has been independently assessed by Andrea Arden.

Anne is the training & behaviour consultant for A Dog’s Life, a dog rescue  charity that works to save dogs from one of Ireland’s busiest pounds.  Here Anne gets to work with lots of her favourite types of dogs including many restricted breeds/types.

Anne teaches training classes to groups in delivering puppy and adult dog courses designed for pet owners and pets without any training experience.

Education is Anne’s inspiration & goal and at the heart of all of her work – she believes that educating pet owners will lead to a much needed improvement in animal welfare standards in Ireland.
